If you are starting your journey from Haridwar, several buses ply from there to Kedarnath every half an hour. The journey takes approximately 8 hours, and you will reach Gaurikund, the final roadhead leading to Kedarnath. Alternatively, if you are traveling with a group of 5 to 6 people, you can rent a jeep from Haridwar or Rishikesh. The journey by jeep takes around 9 to 10 hours to reach Gaurikund
Kedarnath By Air
If you prefer to travel by air, the nearest airport to Kedarnath Dham is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. It is located approximately 239 km away from Kedarnath Dham. From Rishikesh, the airport is about 16 km away, and it takes around 20 to 30 minutes to reach Rishikesh from the airport.
If you want to save time and travel more conveniently, traveling by helicopter to Kedarnath is the best option. This is especially true if you are traveling with someone who cannot travel by road.
There are several places from where you can reach Kedarnath via helicopter, including Gauchar, Dehradun, Phata, Sitapur, and Guptkashi. Helicopter services to Kedarnath usually commence from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun. It takes approximately 40 to 45 minutes to reach the helipads at Phata, Sitapur, Guptkashi, or others. From there, passengers are transferred to another shuttle that takes them to the helipad in Kedarnath, which is just 500 meters away from the main temple entrance.
While this option may be expensive, it can offer one of the most amazing spiritual experiences in Kedarnath, in the least amount of time and with extreme ease. This option will also reduce your travel time to just a few hours instead of days.
It's worth noting that the railway station in Rishikesh does not have a significant number of fast trains, and Kotdwar station also has limited train services. Haridwar railway station is a better choice as it offers better connectivity to major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Howrah.
If you plan to travel by train and visit Kedarnath, Haridwar railway station would be the most convenient option.
Kedarnath New Route
That's correct! After the 2013 floods, the old route to Kedarnath was completely washed away. However, the National Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) has developed and maintained a new route. This new route starts from a newly constructed bridge in Lincholi, which is located after Gaurikund.
To ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims, the administration has set up several facilities along the Kedarnath trek route. These facilities include medical and first aid services available in Bhimbali, Lincholi, and Kedarnath. There are also tea stalls, food joints, and resting sheds available at various points along the route. Additionally, there is a 10-bed hospital equipped with basic modern facilities that can be utilized in case of any urgent medical situations.
